We just spent two amazing days in Memphis, Tennessee, thanks to my brother, John, his wife, Beth and kids Tayler & Isaac.
After driving another 200 miles from Nashville to Memphis, we spent our first night reconnecting with John’s family over beer, burgers and a dip in their swimming pool. The kids put our new underwater camera to the test – we think it passed with flying colors!
Tuesday was a whirlwind tour of Memphis – local’s style. We hit the Peabody Hotel, a gorgeous 20’s era building to see the famous Peabody Ducks march from their penthouse digs to the beautiful marble fountain in the lobby-which they’ve done every day for 50 years.
What started as a drunken prank has become a Memphis tradition seen by countless tourists each year.
As a special treat, we got to see the filming of a segment of “Drinking Made Easy” an HDnet TV series hosted by Zane Lamprey, where two men travel the country in search of unusual pubs and watering holes. Jeff was anxious to know if they were “hiring” LOL! (http://www.hd.net/programs/drinking-made-easy/)
We followed our visit to the Peabody with a trip down famous Beale Street, where 2 in our crew ended the search for the perfect cowboy hat.
We had lunch and made our way to the Memphis Zoo. The kids fed birds in the aviary, we saw a very entertaining sea lion show and strolled the scenic grounds.
This was one of our favorite sites in Memphis – well worth a visit.
We finished our day at Rendezvous – Memphis’ premiere barbeque joint. Just the smell of this place makes your mouth water! Even my picky eaters found something they liked here. The ribs were amazing and the service was fast.
One last dip in the pool, lots of hugs and promises to keep in touch and we are once again on our way.

We loved those Peabody Ducks! One sits on our Christmas Tree every year!
Wow! What an amazing, fun-filled visit with your brother! It sounds like you had a great time and the kids had a chance to get to know each other. Travel safely on the next leg of your trip 🙂 Love you!
Wish I was there! (Now you have no need to send a post card stating “wish you were here!”)
Looks like such a fun time.
Looks like you guys got yourselves some cowboy hats! haha It looks like you’re having a wonderful time! Who knew you could see so many sites in one day! 🙂
Thats my kind of vacation, nice and easy!!!! – love the hats and can’t wait to see what the rest of you end up with….you won’t always be in cowboy country you know! Maybe something snazzy in San Fran? Anyway, off you go to OK or Texas for your next stop – which state will have the fireworks? and are you going to Yellowstone Nat. Park or Red Hill MT? Contineu to have fun – Love Mom
I just talked to John. He said that a great time was had by all in Memphis. It sounds like the vacation is going just as planned. Say hi to Joe,as I understand you are meeting today (July 4th). I’m waiting for pics from Durango….we’ve never been to that part of CO. Remember, be careful on those mountain roads! And continue to have what is the vacation of all vacations.
