Splish, Splash

We left the Custer KOA in South Dakota at the crack of dawn on Tuesday and drove the 800+ miles to the Rock Island KOA in Illinois.  Rock Island is one of the Quad Cities.  The Quad City Region is comprised of four cities that border the Mississippi River – Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa and Moline and Rock Island, Illinois.  We picked this area because it was the halfway point home.

Rock Island KOA had a beautiful pool and splash zone which was a good thing, since we finally hit the heat and humidity that all our East Coast friends have been complaining about.

We had promised the kids that the last stop would have no sightseeing and were true to our word.  We spent Wednesday lounging  by the pool and watching the kids have fun in the splash zone.

In the evening, we took the kids to see the Backwater Gamblers Water Ski Show.  The Gamblers are a group of amateur water skiers that perform tricks on the Rock River.  It was fun to watch and the breeze off the water helped us keep cool.

After the show, we had some dinner and headed back.

Thursday morning brought thunder showers, so we passed the time by going to a movie.  Jeff and Colin saw the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, while the girls and I saw Monte Carlo with Selina Gomez.  Both movies were good and we found a theatre where your ticket, small popcorn and drink were only $4.25 – wish we had one of those in Chester Springs!

When we emerged from the theatre, the sun was shining and it was really hot, so we headed back to spend the afternoon in the swimming pool, where we remained until it closed that evening.

We headed back  to the camper for a late dinner and talked about all the fun we’ve had in the past five weeks.  Everyone had “favorites” on the trip and it was fun to remember the things we’d done and places we’d seen.  It was bittersweet to go to bed knowing our next stop would be home.  While we are happy to  be heading home to see our friends and family, we can’t wait to start planning our next adventure.
